Strawberry Deathcake

If you ever have a chance to catch an ACRD bout in Dallas don't pass it up! Deathcake is a powerful jammer and probably one of the top jammers in the State of Texas. She is greased lightning on the track and despite her ferocity as a player, she is very kind to her fans.

Name: Strawberry Deathcake
Number:
2000
League: Assassination City Roller Derby
Home Team: Lone Star Assassins, Special Ops
Seasons Played: 6

How did you decide on your derby name?
I wanted a name that children would recognize so I asked my Son to help me come up with a name and He created "Strawberry Deathcake".
The number 2000 comes from a famous B movie named "Death Race 2000".

What is your (roller derby) position of choice?
Jammer

Did you ever get to play as a jammer?

all the time

What is your skate gear of choice?
my wheels and knee pads

Yes

Great

How does it feel to have helped spark a revolution?
It's unbelievable that We Women are making a sport all on our own.
Men are second class in the world of Woman's Roller Derby. lol

What made you decide to become a roller girl?
Its empowering and it makes me feel alive. I am 44 years old so I have to use it before I loose it.

What are some of your best/favorite moments in roller derby?
I loved the fights from seasons 2005 thru 2007.
I love to get a 30 point jam.
I also like to make multiple jammer takeouts or hold an opposing jammer scoreless.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to/ around you in derby?
Once at my 2007 Championship bout I was removed from the game by the referees for unlady like conduct. Instead of leaving the track I hid in the audience between two fans who were enjoying the bout. These two elderly ladies said "Strawberry what are you doing here ?" You were kicked out shouldn’t you leave? I replied don’t worry I have a plan, so I asked them for their popcorn so that I could look more inconspicuous. All at once I threw the popcorn up in the air and flew back onto the track as the announcers screamed out " Oh My God Strawberry Death Cake is back on the track!!!!" The refs were blowing their whistles and chasing me so I had to make my move fast. I grabbed a victim from the opposing team and put her in a head lock, twirled around, and slammed her onto a beer can pyramid! The crowd went nuts and I must have signed a million autographs that night.

Who are your roller derby heroes?

Do you have a motivational quote?
Pop her like a Pimple!
Get her before she gets You.

Do you have any game day rituals?
My whole week before a bout is a ritual which includes plenty of rest and water.
I also complete a 45 minute warm up before each bout.
My mind travels to Strawberry Land where I can conquer anything!

What goes through your brain as you lace up your skates for a bout?
calm and prepared

Do you have a theme song?
Barracuda by Heart

Do you have a signature move?
Skate fast.

What else, besides play, do you do for your league?
train and promote

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in roller derby?
To thy own self be true because some people will try to discourage you. Be a Roller Derby advocate.

  1. Strawberry is now my hero! Finally someone else who is not ashamed to say she loves to fight! I can't stop smiling, thinking about her putting someone in a headlock.
